A Portia Caldwell Dessert

A Portia Caldwell Dessert

A PORTIA CALDWELL DESSERT

A Portia Caldwell Dessert is a dessert that is always made from scratch but what distinguishes this dessert from others is its distinct taste and moistness that comes from using only the best ingredients and using time tested techniques that were learned as a little girl watching and helping my dad bake. The name of my business was inspired by one of my customers who after coming back from a function would often say to me, "they had cake but it was not a Portia Caldwell cake." Give it a try. A Portia Caldwell dessert always ends with a smile.

Bronnie's Brittle

BRONNIE'S BRITTLE

Bronnie's Brittle is my father's family recipe of peanut brittle. Years ago he began making the candy for holiday gifts and it eventually became a town novelty. Our brittle is light, airy and super crunchy. During the past year I have been experimenting with the brittle and have added new ingredients such as milk chocolate, butterscotch and a hint of sea salt. In addition, the breaking of the brittle creates an excellent dessert topping for one's favorite ice cream or gelato. This has resulted in a variety of new taste choices to go with the popular southern candy - peanut brittle.

BROWN SUGAR DESSERTS BY RENEA

We believe the best things in life are sweet, so we aim to provide that sweetness in every bite of one of our homemade, delicious desserts! I began baking, like most little girls, in my Easy Bake Oven. My granddaddy was my number 1 fan! It wasn't until my adulthood, however, that I realized baking sweet treats didn't just give me great joy, but that it was also a God-given gift. What started as a cake or pie between family, friends and co-workers has grown so much bigger than I could have imagined. We currently offer about 20 different cake flavors along with 3 deep dish pies. Some of the most popular include Red Velvet Cheesecake, Strawberry Shortcake and Deep Dish Peach Cobbler. There is a little piece of my heart in every dessert I create and I will forever desire to share it with the world!

Bully Sauce

Bully Sauce

Bully Sauce BBQ horizontal.jpg

BULLY SAUCE

Bully Sauce has been a work in progress for some time now. The sauces are a product of growing  up in the restuarant business and constantly trying out different sauces.

When I was a kid, my father used to make me cut squash at our local family BBQ restaurant. I started young, and did the grind until I was eventually promoted to the line cook, where I began to experiment with different sauces.

My grandfather, Ralph Yarbrough was the first to create his blend back in the '50s; and this was part of the inspiration for our brand.

After the restaurant, I attended Samford University in Birmingham. Jumping forward twelve years, I met my wife, who was a Mississippi State alumnus. Personally coming from a family in Georgia, going to Samford in Alabama, and marrying into Mississippi State, I think it's fair to say we have "bulldog" in our blood.

From there spawned our obsession and loyalty to the bully breeds. Bulldogs are a fierce breed with bold personalities. Yet, once they warm up to you, they are as sweet as can be. Our bulldog, Rawlings is the face of our first two sauces! We find his temperament to be a good reflection of the sauce.

The Fresh Squeeze

The Fresh Squeeze

THE FRESH SQUEEZE

The Fresh Squeeze started as a way to unite this team's passion of being in the kitchen, sustainability and nutrition. A few years ago, co-owner Aaryn Melnikoff received a juicer as a birthday present and immediately begin to understand the quality and result of raw juice. Growing up he was mainly exposed to the pasteurized, sugar laden juices found in grocery stores. Aaryn describes the process of pasteurizing juice as actually killing the micro-nutrients and live enzymes from the produce that are most beneficial for the consumer; it also degrades the taste, which is why sugar is added back to the juice. The Fresh Squeeze team has a goal: to enjoy great tasting juices, unpasteurized with all of the natural healthy benefits while sourcing local ingredients. The opportunity to impact people's healthy and well being through their products ignited their motivation to create The Fresh Squeeze.

Monroe Sausage is as rich in history as its flavor. The original company became a household name in Monroe County, Alabama way back in the late 1940's when they threw sausage biscuits from their float during the annual "Monroeville Hog Festival".

That company was eventually sold to partners who then set out to make the best sausage anyone had ever tasted. They spent months working on the recipe and experimenting with spices and seasonings. Words is they even had to go all the way to Atlanta to get the seasonings they needed to make it just right! Well, people loved it. In fact, you could hardly find a family gathering or cookout that didn't feature Monroeville Brand Smoked Sausage. Kids grew up with it as part of their lives. And as it's fame and flavor spread through word of mouth, it wasn't unusual for folks from all over Alabama to get you to pick 'em up a bunch if they heard you were passin' through Monroe County. Enjoy the delicious smokiness of the legendary Hickory Smoked Monroe Sausage each week at The Market!
