ALABAMA WALDORF SCHOOL
The Alabama Waldorf School (AWS) began in the Birmingham area in 1987 and began expanding its grades program in 2000. Now, the AWS offers grades 5k through grade 8 with pre-school also available.
The school utilizes the traditional Waldorf philosophy as defined by renowned scientist, philosopher and artist Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925). Steiner developed the Waldorf School model through his studies of human development and the needs of children as they age physically, mentally and emotionally. Currently, 94% of all Waldorf graduates attend college and 91% consider themselves active in lifelong education.
