Jesse Payne

Jesse Payne

JESSE PAYNE

Jesse Payne stems from a soil deep in the Southeastern region of the United States. He nests in scenic views of trees and mountains blending into valley of skyscrapers and barns. Alabama and the Appalachian trail provide the canvas for his yellow shade of timeless polaroids transposing over lake and swing. A lifestyle suggesting an inheritance of owls and their nocturnal solitude. His sound and sight each born from a landscape of heavy cotton hands and autumn chairs. Upon returning to his home in early 2007, after cutting his teeth touring the eastern coastal region for a couple of years, Jesse Payne delivered the EP, Beyond The Leaves. The EP earned him a spot in The Big Takeover's Top 40, alongside Band of Horses, Death Cab For Cutie, and Willie Nelson. Payne released his debut full-length album, Nesting on November 10, 2010. The album reached #3 in California on KDVS radio and stayed in the College top 30 across the United States for six consecutive weeks. The year following the release of Nesting was full of studio sessions and tour dates. On October 4, 2011, Payne released the Buffalo EP alongside the Kettle and Crow DVD. His latest, HEIRLOOM was released in the summer of 2015.

Red Harp

Red Harp

RED HARP

Alabama's own Red Harp wasn't born like other men. In his lyrics, he has stated that one day he just "stepped out of the ocean on the shores of Mobile Bay", presumably with a guitar in his hand and a message on his lips. Since then, he has been traveling the state playing a blend of folk punk and digital beats. The old and the new. The natural past with the mechanical future, combined with as many instruments as can be looped. Red's mission is never as clear as when you feel the thump of bass, the screech of strings and hear the prophets voice screaming "there are no sane reaction to the world".

The release of her first self titled album is set to happen in September of 2016! Her song writing style is a blend of strong melodies and complex chord progressions. Eerie melodic riffs and intriguing rhythms create the background for her songs.

Taylor Hollingsworth

Taylor Hollingsworth

TAYLOR HOLLINGSWORTH

From earliest days as a lo-fi axe slinger shredding J. Mascis - by the way of - Johnny Thunders riffage on You Know That Summer's Coming, to his time spent touring with Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band wrangling cosmic American music out of Mexican moorings, and ore recently pairing up with his wife to form Dead Fingers, Taylor has been an active part of the music community both locally and on an international level for an impressive amount of time.
He has fostered his songwriting skills through years of hard won apprenticeships and also toured extensively throughout the US and in Europe sharing the stage with Jason Isbell, Maria Taylor, and Leon Redbone.

Taylor Shaw

Taylor Shaw

TAYLOR SHAW OF THE GREAT BOOK OF JOHN

Shaw, from whom songs ceaselessly, The Great Book of John has been an active part of the music community both locally and on an international scale since 2005. Taylor was also the lead guitarist for former Birmingham original Wild Sweet Orange and has shared the stage with Counting Crows, Mat Kearney, Bright Eyes and First Aid Kit. His music is eminently lyrical - recalling Jeff Buckley's psychedelic soul, Leonard Cohen's poetic wordplay, and fiery fretwork influenced as much by Stevie Ray Vaughn and David Gilmour as it is by Radiohead.

Timber

Timber

TIMBER

Timber is a collaboration between Janet Simpson and Will Stewart - two veteran musicians who came together when Stewart, an Alabama native, was working with his band Willie and the Giant on their Coosa EP. It was suggested that Simpson - a multi-faceted, Birmingham, Alabama based musician - lend her talents to the proceedings. Pressed for time, Simpson came to the studio that day, spent an hour adding keys and her sumptuous voice to a few of Stewart's songs, and left to catch a plane for a European tour with her band, Wooden Wand.

Later on, the two began crafting the album - splitting the instrumental duties, keeping things simple, and embracing spontaneous moments. As a result, Timber's self-titled EP is a study in gorgeous economy. Each of these five tracks feels like a frozen moment - its protagonists on the cusp of either liberating revelations or freezing paranoia... maybe both.

The lush instrumentation travels splendidly through each song, luxuriating in the open spaces while providing a counterpoint to the dramatic tension coiled within the lyrics. The listener never learns too much, but it's enough to want to hear the breif program on repeat - an urge that pays in dividends.
