Jason & Shelley Powell along with partner Steve Wilson began the nursery business in the summer of 1994 as a small operation. The nursery was established at its present site in 1995 near Jemison, Alabama. Petals From the Past has a philosophy to produce and retail heritage, or antique, roses along with featured perennials and annuals. Around 2002, Arlie & Gwen Powell became co-owners of the business with Jason & Shelley. Arlie Powerr, a retired fruit scientist from Auburn University, along with Jason have developed nearly 6 acres of fruit gardens. While not certified organic, the Powells use the safest practices possible to grow high quality fruit, safe for consumers. The farm carries over 140 varieties of fruit plants, conducts farm tours and lectures and has several planned activities throughout the year.pest Management
The Powells use (and retail) a wide selection of fertilizers including those for organic and conventional gardeners. This includes acid farming fertilizer for blueberries to calcium nitrate used on apples and pears.Water Use
Petals from the Past uses mostly county water in their retail and fruit producing areas (slow release, trickle irrigation) plus local stream or well water in plant production areas.Weed Control
